Description: CIA World Factbook is a website created by the CIA with information compiled about the countries of the world.  This website is comprised of maps and flags of countries as well as factual information.  The CIA Factbook will also read all emails and post mail if someone has an update they would like added to the Factbook.

 

 

Columbia Gazetteer of the World

Description: Online version of the Columbia Gazetteer of the World a geographic index.  The scope of the website includes the political and physical world as well as special places and contains 40,000 entries for the United States and 165,000 entries overall.

 

 

Cultural Maps at University of Virginia

Description:  This site from the University of Virginia contains cultural and historical maps of the United States as well as links to other map collections.  Historical American maps are found here that pertain to the Revolutionary and Civil wars, transportation, and expansion.

Description: The National Atlas website contains viewable and printable maps of the United States as well as boundary information for states, counties, Congressional Districts, time zones, and Federal land.  This site also includes articles about various subjects topical to geography such as boundaries, mapping, people, and government.

Description: Website to National Geographic the publishers of National Geographic Magazine.  This website has an education section that offers maps, history, people and places as well as photography and video.  This site is updated daily and offers current news in the field of Geography and the environment.

Description: This website is from the University of Texas Libraries and offers maps of the world and individual countries as well as maps devoted to historical and thematic issues.  This site will also link to other sites and with a range of map types including maps of current events such as September 11, 2001, Tsunami maps from 2004 and Hurricane Katrina and Rita maps.

This text gives an overall view of geography geared towards the education of college students it helps one decided whether to study geography and provides information about the varying types of geographic study.  This work also includes a section on how to get the most out of a geography class but is pertinent to other fields of study.
